Ethics & Compliance

In keeping with its values and commitments, ENGIE seeks in all circumstances to act in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in the countries where it operates. To achieve this goal, the Group established a code of conduct that underpins the day-to-day strategic decisions, management and professional practices of the Group. It also introduced the tools needed to measure compliance with this commitment.

Ethics & Compliance: the moral code and its application

Ethics can be defined as a practical application of morally acceptable—or value-based—practices in a given situation. Compliance refers to the set of systems put into practice in order to conform to the required standard of ethical behavior.

In other words, ethics and compliance are two sides of the same reality, a reality that applies to all ENGIE employees. This therefore needs to be communicated through a specific structure and existing frames of reference.

The Group’s Ethical Principles

ENGIE bases its ethics and compliance policy on four specific principles:

  1. Act in accordance with laws and regulations
Group employees must, in all circumstances, observe international, federal, national and local laws and the professional codes of practice applicable to their activities.
  2. Behave fairly and honestly
Employees fulfill their undertakings and engagements scrupulously. Whenever they communicate, within the company or externally, they do so in good faith and in a constructive spirit, with a concern for providing genuine, accurate and complete information.
  3. Establish a culture of integrity
Integrity is about avoiding any conflict between personal interests and the Group’s interests. It underpins an absolute belief in the obligation to respect certain values. It thereby creates a climate of trust and acts as a shield against corrupt practices.
  4. Respect others
This principle particularly applies to the respect for the rights of individuals, for their dignity and their differences, as well as a respect for different cultures. It also applies to tangible and intangible goods that belong to others.

The ethics program defines the ethical principles that all ENGIE employees are expected to apply to their professional practices and conduct towards anyone with whom the Group has dealings.
